Golf is the Worst Sport, You Cannot Change My Mind

Mady Seeber takes to the books to prove once and for all that golf is the worst sport out there.

My dislike of golf started personally. I was five, it was 98 degrees, and we were playing on an 18-hole course. Naturally, I hated that sport. But as I grew older, my opinion became less based on my personal experience with golf, and more based on the facts and statistics, and I came to the conclusion: golf sucks.

To start: golf is sexist. I mean, most things today are, but when you look at the numbers, out of all the people that play golf, 77% are male. Over 3/4 of this sport is male-dominated, to this day. Since the 1980s, golf has improved many regulations for its women competitors, but only because of the immense social pressure to do so. And yet, women still feel harassment on the course.

A writer for the Women's Golf Journal wrote that it "usually starts with "I was watching you and noticed you could use a little help..." she continued to say that many men often approach women on the course and tell them what they're doing wrong. She says that sometimes it gets to the point where it is necessary to talk to club managers because it begins to cross a line. While these numbers are far smaller, the occasional 'mansplain' is common on the golf course.

Also, golf does a horrible job of representing minorities. Last April, the POLICE were called on eight black women who were accused of "golfing too slowly." Which is, ridiculous. Tiffany Fitzgerald, a writer for The Guardian said that, "if that's really a crime, most middle aged white businessmen in America would've been arrested at some point."

Fitzgerald also pointed out that the PGA of America had a law saying golf was a "caucasians only" sport, which wasn't removed until 1961. She continued to say that she's been told sometimes that she couldn't take certain stairs because "these are white stairs."

But Tiffany is not alone, one of the most famous golfers himself, Tiger Woods, struggled with racism on the course. As a young golfer, Woods recalls not being allowed to change in the same areas as his friends, or even buy a drink from the country clubs he went to. Woods said that he started playing to change the way black people were perceived, and said he was incredibly sad that two decades later, nothing had changed.

And golf is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Back in the 80s, a golfer could pay about $50 to get started. Today, it'll cost golfers almost $525 to get started owning all their own stuff. So when people say "golf is a rich man's game" they're really not pulling your leg.

The sport itself is shaped by the money. Once, golf was a fun way to enjoy oneself, and now sports gambling on golf is becoming a lucrative business. One internet user said that they had been paying $10,000 to play at a country club, recreationally.

Golf is also, incredibly, incredibly boring. If you've ever been to a golf course you'll know. The spirit of the game isn't in anything captivating. You hit a ball. And hit it again. Until it goes in a hole. Then you repeat. Up to 18 times. A typical game of golf takes 3 to 4.5 hours to complete says www.golflink.com.

Oh, and also, President Trump plays golf too.
