It's waaaay too easy to spend hours searching Netflix, just to find nothing that really catches your eye. Especially with Netflix's Christmas Rom-Com selection, every single one is always a gamble. That's why this guide is here! No more spending hours browsing for a Christmas Rom-Com, it's all here!
Let It Snow
New on Netflix, Let it Snow is a simple teen romance, with an almost "Love Actually" feel to it, as all the character's stories are tied together. The story covers so many issues that make it more touching than your average Netflix rom-com. Instead of just covering "teen love" the story touches on friendship, on not judging people on their appearances, on letting go, and taking chances. That's not to say that it's not a cheesy romance, it is - I mean, it's got your classic love triangle, an aspiring DJ, a famous songwriter, and a girl waaay to obsessed with what others think of her. But it does go a little deeper than most of your cheesy Netflix romances. Personally, I was touched by it, and might have shed a few tears... but I also cry at plenty of things. If I was looking for a nice winter romance, I'd take a chance on this one.
The Knight Before Christmas
Starring Vanessa Hudgens, Netflix's rising star of cheesy Christmas rom-coms, "the Knight Before Christmas" is definitely a cheesy romance. All. The. Way. However, it's definitely laughable, and yes, it does excel in the area of incredibly cheesy, cringey, and sometimes overwhelmingly bad jokes. One viewer said that "the funniest part was that it wasn't very good... but therefore comedic." But that made it an amusing find for that viewer. And, all cringiness aside, it also hid a feminist subplot with a young girl, that was sweet. But of course, the most touching part of it, it always it's incredibly absurd-makes-absolutely-no-sense romance. All seriousness aside, the movie is a stupidly fun watch, and while it doesn't follow through with the grace of other, more cheesy Netflix rom-coms, it's still a bet worth wagering.
Holiday In the Wild
Okay, so it's not a total swoon-worthy sob story, but I did like this movie. It definitely beat around the bush when it came to the actual romance of it, and the romance was not at the movie's central focal point 24/7. That's not to say that it wasn't a romantic movie, it most assuredly was, and is. The romance between Kristin Davis' "Kate" and Rob Lowe's "Derek" was cute, and fun. What was nice about this movie was that it also focused on Kate finding what she wanted to do with her life, and being herself, as well as taking care of her son, now at college. I like that it focused on her moving on, and being who she wanted to be. The movie also spends a lot of time focusing on the elephants, and it does do a good job of showing the threats to elephants, and the help needed, which was touching. Overall I'd say if you're not looking for a REAL romance, and you just want something cute take a chance on Holiday in the Wild.
A Christmas Prince
Is it cheesy. Absolutely. "A Christmas Prince" - now a trilogy, is absolutely cheesy. It covers the story of Amber a journalist, who travels to a (fake, made up) European country called "Aldovia," where she is supposed to report on the royal family there. She goes incognito, and one thing leads to another, and she's suddenly wrapped up in the royal family. It's absolutely cheesy, but it's also a really fun watch. It's just cute, and fun. There's some light comedy, and some heartwarming sections, and of course, there's a few cringes. But, I'd think that any lover of the classic, cheesy rom-com would love "A Christmas Prince."
The Princess Switch
"The Princess Switch," the setting of Vanessa Hudgens' Netflix rom-com takeover is... of course, set in "Belgravia" another fake European country. There, Stacy, a baker from New York, and Margaret, the "Duchess of Montenegro" discover that they are look-a-likes, and decide to switch places... it's like, A Christmas Prince meets The Parent Trap. And yeah, it's not as in-depth, or touching as "Let it Snow" but it is cute, and fun. It's heartwarming to watch the characters fall in love, and it's goofy, and silly. It's the perfect movie to watch if you're bored around Christmas-time, and desire that feel-good Christmas rom-com. Unlike "The Knight Before Christmas," "The Princess Switch" follows through on the fact that is a highly unrealistic, cheesy movie, but none of that goes overboard, and is balanced by the fun, and cute romances, and subtle comedy.
"Love actually" has always been one of my favourite movies! thank you for this!
