Every year, Rocky Mountain High School puts on a display of their AP Art student's works. This year was unforgettable.
As the sun set on the city of Fort Collins, Rocky Mountain High School remained alive. Dozens of Rocky's AP art students milled about their works, ranging from detailed sculptures to talented drawings, and everything in between. Accompanied by RMHS vocalists and musicians, this year's AP Art Show was one that will never be forgotten.
If you'd stepped through the doors by the Auditorium around 6:00, on December 10, 2019, several thin black sheets would have greeted you. Through them wafted the soothing sound of an acoustic guitar, and the voices of several singers, all in perfect harmony. One of those thin, black sheets was tied up in a knot, creating an entry way to the art show.
Once inside, you would be greeted by dozens of sculptures, and several rows of mounted artwork. It didn't take long to be drawn in. "How Can You Do This To Another Human" was scrawled in blood red across a yellowed map, while black and white photos of indigenous people, Jews in the holocaust, and more, dotted the pages. A row behind it, and Jaime Fortunado's capturing photography comes to your attention, stunning eyes pop out of the black background, each person is different, and beautiful.
And there's so much more. Gorgeous paintings, climate art, decorated shoes, sculptures of trash, simplistic vegan food drawings, sculptures of faces, adorned with string, drawings done in black and white that draw every eye. But on top of the fact that this art was beautiful, each touched the viewer in a different way. Thousands of emotions, outrage, love, peace, everything was tangible in this exhibit.
Every single piece was beautifully done. The exhibit touched every single person there, it was more than just "the AP Art Show" it was a display of the human spirit itself.
